Marianna Schmidt, 93, formerly of Highpointe in Troy, passed away on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Born and educated in Munich, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Anton and Anna Schatz Bayer.
Mrs. Schmidt immigrated to the United Sates as a child, returned to Munich at age 14 before returning to the United Sates in 1956.
She was employed by New York Telephone Company for 26 years in Troy, from where she retired in 1982 as the Plant Manager.
She was a member of the former Germania Hall in Lansingburgh (presently the German-American Club of Albany), the Schuheplattler Verein Alpenklang dancers and of Faith Lutheran Church in Speigletown.
Beloved wife of over 62 years of Herbert V. Schmidt of Troy, who she married on April 27, 1956, devoted mother of Peter (Hilda) Schmidt of Schaghticoke and Paul Schmidt of Waterford, sister of Hermann (late, Margaret) Bayer of Munich, Germany and the late Gertraud (late, Josef) Schaffer, grandmother of Eric Schmidt of Waterford, Heather Schmidt of Lansingburgh, Kim (Dave) Boltri of Rotterdam and Tina Navarro of New Scotland, great grandmother of Nicole, Kailey, Joe, Kristina, Jeffrey and Mackayla, aunt of Hermann (Karin) Bayer, Jr., Anita (Werner) Haringer and Gabrielle (Michael)
Rigo-Titze and her two daughters; Antonia and Veronica (Johan), all of Munich, Germany and Tomas Frank of Georgia, U.S.A., also survived by one great-great grandson, one great-great granddaughter and several cousins in Germany.
A private funeral service will be held at the Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel at Oakwood Cemetery, 186 Oakwood Avenue, Troy, NY 12182, where the burial will take place.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the German-American Club of Albany, 32 Cherry St., Albany, NY 12205, in memory of Marianna Schmidt.
