Linda Vanderwall

Obituary of Linda Ruth Vanderwall

Clifton Park - Linda R. Smith Vanderwall, 74, of Clifton Park and Dunedin, Florida passed away peacefully at her daughter's residence in Brooklyn on Sunday December 3, 2017. Born in Buffalo, she is the daughter of the late Ruth and Harold Smith.

Linda began her education in the West Seneca Schools, where she graduated as a top scholar and athlete. She then went on to earn her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Physical Education from the Cortland State Teacher's College.  Over her 31 years of teaching, Linda taught at Jamesville Dewitt, Whitesboro, Liverpool, Susquehanna and The Hebrew Academy of the Capital District.  She married the love of her life, Edward Vanderwall, on August 17, 1968 and eventually settled in Clifton Park where they raised their family and have resided for the last 40 years.  Linda loved crafting, gardening and her beloved New York Yankees. She was happiest when she was spending time with her family or working in her many gardens. During her retirement, she enjoyed wintering in "delightful" Dunedin, Florida with her husband at the Douglas Arms Apartments where she made many friends. This allowed her to be close to her beloved Yankees and attend countless spring training games. When in Clifton Park and not in her gardens, Linda enjoyed playing bridge and crocheting at the Shenendehowa Senior Center, walking the nature trails in town, and volunteering with Care Links.  She was also an active member of the Christ Community Reformed Church.

A Memorial Service for Linda will be held on Saturday December 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Rt. 146 Clifton Park. Linda will be laid to rest at Historic Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo.

Linda is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Edward Vanderwall; her children; Scott (Jennifer) Vanderwall and Amy (Dan) Musick; her grandchildren; Ryan Vanderwall, Casey Vanderwall and Lily Musick; her sister, Sandra (Keith Doney) Smith; and her sisters-in-law;  Tina Vanderwall and Pody Vanderwall.  She is also survived by nieces, nephews and dear friends. Linda was predeceased by her brother, Gary Smith.

Those wishing to remember Linda in a special way, may make memorial contributions in her name to Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Rt. 146 Clifton Park, NY 12065 or Care Links, 543 Saratoga Rd. Glenville, NY 12302
