Carole Marie Mushaw

Carole Marie Mushaw (née Gilligan), 86, of Hillcrest Drive passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. She was born on Oct. 15, 1935 in Great Barrington, MA and was the daughter of the late William and Clarice Gilligan.  Carole was a graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon High School and Skidmore College.  She was a Medical Malpractice Claims Administrator with the Hospital Underwriters Mutual Co. in Albany for over 20 years, and retired in 2000. She had been a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Ushers.

 

A resident of Ballston Lake for fifty years, Carole was an enthusiastic patron of local businesses and always greeted everyone with a smile.  She had a great love and passion for all animals, large and small.  In her retirement, she devoted her time to bringing her beloved therapy dogs to rehab facilities and retirement homes, providing a source of joy for the patients there.  Under her training, her dogs received several awards and certifications, including a TDI Exceptional Volunteer Achievement and inclusion in the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen Archives.  Carole also loved to read and do the daily newspaper crossword and Sudoku puzzles.

 

She was the beloved wife of the late Albert Mushaw, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1961.

She was the devoted mother of Scott (Kristina) Mushaw of Scotia, Kathleen (Andrew) McDonald of Williamsville, NY, Cynthia Schroeder of Malta, NY, and the late Christopher Mushaw of Malta; dear sister of Judith Schnurr of Sheffield, MA; cherished grandmother of Anthony, Michael, Paige, Shaune, Ethan, Ryan, Oliver, Claire, Spencer, and William; great-grandmother of Taegan, Greyson, Natalie, and Luke; and lifelong friend to Mary Boulukes-Cassier, Barbara Ward-Hayes and Naomi Tandet-Shapiro.  Carole is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

 

Calling hours will be on Sunday from 1-4 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

 

Funeral service will be private on Monday with burial in Jonesville Cemetery, Clifton Park, NY.
