Obituary of William F. Collis

William F. Collis, 68, of Wynantskill, died Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Samaritan Hospital, Troy, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Troy, he was the son of the late Kenneth A. and Dorothy Denton Collis. He was raised and educated in Troy, graduating from Troy High School in 1967, after which he continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College.
It was in high school that he began dating the girl whom he would marry, Sharon L. Stymer. They were wed in 1970 and began their family.

Bill entered the insurance field, working for John Hancock Insurance Company, and progressed to being a financial planner, retiring in 2013, following over 40 years of service. He was a former member of the Troy Junior Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill.

Bill enjoyed his daughters, and their softball careers, where he served as both a spectator and a coach. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf, and was an avid Yankees and Giants fan.

He is survived by his wife: Sharon L. Collis; two daughters Amanda (Robert Acabbo) Collis of Jericho, VT and Abigail (Nicholas Pagano) Collis of Ballston Spa; his twin brother, Robert J. Collis of Guilderland; his aunt, Mitzi Marcil of Portland, OR; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son, Andrew W. Collis and a brother, Kenneth A. Collis, Jr.

A memorial service for William will be held on Thursday evening, May, 4, 2017, at 6:00 PM, at the First Reformed Church of Wynantskill, 413 Main Ave, Wynantskill, NY 12198, with the Rev. Dawn Alpaugh, Pastor, officiating.  A time of sharing and fellowship will follow.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions in memory of William F. Collis to either the American Diabetes Foundation, Pine West Plaza Building 2, Suite 204, Washington Avenue Extension, Albany, New York 12205, or to the American Kidney Foundation, AAKP, 14440 Bruce B. Downs Blvd., Tampa, FL 33613.

The Collis family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. James Aram, DCI Rubin Dialysis Center, Community Hospice and the Sixth Floor staff at Samaritan Hospital for their loving comfort and care.
