Obituary of William H. Roberts, III

William H. Roberts, III 81 of Melrose passed away on Tuesday Sept. 24, 2024 after a long battle with lung and brain cancer at his home in the loving company of his family. He was born on June 3, 1943 in Troy, NY and was the son of the late William H. and Vera Bersaw Roberts, Jr. Bill was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and served his country in the US Navy and was honorably discharged as a Petty Officer 3rd. Class. He was in Cuba during the guided missile crises. He later served aboard the USS Albany as a guided missile technician. He retired from a management position with Verizon after 38 years of service. Bill was very active in the community. He was a scout leader of Troop 680 in Melrose, equipment manager for the Troy Patriots Pop Warner and he coached baseball for the Hoosic Valley Athletic Association. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, golf, camping, canoeing and tying flies for fishing. He rode his Harley all of over the United States and Nova Scotia. He is a past member of Capital District Fly Fishers. He is a member of the Powampponk Fish and Game Club and the NRA. Bill was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church in Ushers.
He is the beloved husband of Marjorie Gail Frament Roberts, whom he married on Nov. 6, 1965; devoted father of Sharon M. Roberts Gully (the late Michael), William H. Roberts, IV, Matthew D. Roberts (Shelley Mosca), Aaron J. Roberts (Karen) and Mary Anne Roberts Cisler (Eric); brother of Vera Murray, Marion Daus (Mike), Douglas Roberts (Lynne), Constance Hoffmann (Paul), Deborah Levensailor and the late Carolyn Pearson; also survived by his 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, Marlena Roberts Horton (close friend), and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 5-7 pm Thursday (today Sept. 26th.) in the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. 565 – 4th. Ave. Troy, NY 12182 (Cor. of 115th. St. & 4th. Avenue in Lansingburgh)
Funeral service and interment will be private on Friday with the Military Honors and burial in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.
