I will always remember my dear uncle Donald being the life of our family gatherings, holding forth about one thing or another, jousting with my dad, his sisters, always ready with a quip or a line that would leave us in stitches. He would go on at length about his work in the NYPD, and even as a little girl, I would eavesdrop eagerly to hear his stories after the kids had been shooed into another room. He and my Aunt Gloria, both career NYPD, were passionate about their work and represented what “good guys” looked like in the sometimes dangerous world that I came into as a young girl in the Bronx. Their family move to Glenn’s Falls was a loss to us all, but despite the distance, the memories of our playful loving relationship, filled with teasing and laughter among Uncle Don, my father, and their sisters, remained vivid in my heart. Years later, I remember seeing him across the room in the middle of a conversation at my cousin Krissy’s wedding, and without missing a beat, he extended his arms to me and said, “Wait! That’s my niece!” and grabbed me for a bear hug and a chat that left me feeling so loved. As the last of his generation to leave us, Uncle Don’s passing marks the end of an era. His incredible warmth, sense of humor, unwavering loving devotion for Aunt Betty and his girls, and the valuable life lessons he imparted will forever be cherished. Today we are honoring this humble, sweet and remarkable man who embodied the essence of family. I’m grateful for the lasting impact he had on my life. We are all blessed to have had him in our lives. To the rest of the Ks, it is an honor and a privilege to be part of your extended family. With love, KOM1

I would like to send my heart-felt condolences from afar. I am so very sorry I could not attend Mr. O'Meara's funeral and be there to support the O'Meara family who I've known most of my life. I was so saddened to hear of his death. Please know, I am there in spirit. The Ricci family is praying for Mr O'Meara's swift ascension into Heaven, and for his entire family at this difficult time. May he rest in God's hands now in peace. Love, Karen

In my memories of Don, one word comes to mind, "love". Love for Betty, his wife and partner of 57 years, love of his children and grandchildren, and love of God and country. His love was always punctuated with his Irish wit and his impish smile. His spirit will always be with you. Don, don't trip on the Blarney Stone on your way through the gates of Heaven and whatever you do, don't spill your Guiness! Family and friends will miss you, but you will live on in our hearts.
