Please share a memory of Joaquin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joaquin B. “Jake” Tibi, Jr., 84, of Waterford, entered eternal life on Saturday, March 1, 2025.

Born in Iriga City, Philippines, Jake was the son of the late Joaquin Estrada Tibi, Sr., and Magdalena Bugarin Tibi. He was the devoted husband of Normita de Chavez Tibi of 38 years until her passing on February 18, 2014. Jake graduated from Victorino Mapa High School and went on to earn his Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of the East.

Before immigrating to the United States, Jake practiced dentistry in Manila, Philippines. Later, he retired as a Medical Technician from St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, where his dedication and professionalism made a lasting impression.

Jake was the beloved father of Dr. Leila Marice Tibi-Scherl (Edward Scherl) and Marita Jeanine Tibi. He was the cherished grandfather “Lolo” of Emmaline, Ethan, and Eloise Scherl, and Jace T. Paulino. He is also survived by his loving sister, Evelyn Teves (the late Vincente), and several nieces, nephews, and their families. Jake was predeceased by his brother, Arch. Eduardo B. Tibi (Delicia).

For over 40 years, Jake was a devoted communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Crescent and a committed member of the Bukas Loob sa Diyos Covenant Community for over two decades. His faith was the foundation of his life, inspiring his commitment to Bible study and daily prayer of the rosary, which he often shared with his wife and daughters.

In retirement, Jake dedicated his time to volunteering with the Halfmoon-Waterford Fire Department, first as fire police and later as a social volunteer.

An outdoorsman at heart, Jake loved camping and deep-sea fishing with his closest family and friends. On a warm summer day, he was often found by the Crescent Bridge, patiently casting his line into the peaceful waters of the Mohawk River. He also had a passion for photography, good food, drink and cooking. Jake was lovingly known among the local Filipino community for his signature Bicolano dish, spicy laing, a family and social gathering favorite.

A proud Lolo to his beloved grandchildren, Jake found immense joy in celebrating their accomplishments and activities. He was delighted in watching them thrive in everything they pursued, whether it was their academic successes, karate promotions, sports, school performances, piano and dance recitals.

Jake’s memory will be cherished for his unwavering kindness, generosity, quick sense of humor, and impeccable style, Jake always brought joy, love, and inspiration to those around him. He will be sorely missed.
