JOHN A. MCCALL
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on Friday, June 20, 2025 of Upstate New York “Tire Warehouse” founder John A. McCall. John had resided in St. Petersburg, FL, Lake George, NY and Malta, NY.
John was born in Albany, NY and was the son of the late David and Helen Rappleyea McCall and was a graduate Colonie Central High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1970 to 1972 and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge M16 and his Honorable Discharge.
In 1982, John ventured into the tire business opening his first location of the Tire Warehouse at 2040 Central Avenue in Colonie. He then expanded his tire empire to serve those in need of auto repair and tires at 15 locations throughout Upstate New York. In 2024, John sold his successful empire, which he started, grew, nurtured, lived and loved for 42 years so that others could have the opportunity to grow their business from what he developed as he leaves as his legacy.
John loved yachting, so much so that he sailed the waterways and seas from New York to Florida on several occasions. He was an avid Nautical Antique Collector. John was Past President of the Upstate NY Tire Association and Past President of the Paradise Pointe Homeowners Association.
He is survived by the love of his life Patricia A. “Patty” Bettencourtt, his brother David K. (Diane) McCall as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was predeceased by his parents, a brother Michael McCall and a nephew Brian McCall.
