Obituary of Marilyn D. Fane
Marilyn Doris Fane passed away on Monday, October 20, surrounded by her loving family. She lived ninety beautiful years.
Marilyn was born in Troy to the late Harry Waters and Doris Shellard Waters. Marilyn attended Troy High School and later worked as a stenographer for the New York State Department of Public Works. In 1953, she married the love of her life, Warren W. Fane, Sr. and moved to Speigletown with him. Marilyn and Warren went on to have four sons, who were her entire world. After raising her boys, Marilyn was an integral part in helping Warren grow his sand, gravel and excavation business into the capital district staple that it is today.
Marilyn was a member of the Lansingburgh Football Booster Club and the Speigletown Women’s Auxiliary. Marilyn enjoyed bowling at Hilltop Bowl with her Speigletown friends; she also loved to golf, though she was known to throw the ball further than she could hit it.
While her family was her pride, shopping was Marilyn’s joy. TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, HomeGoods and Boscov’s have all lost their number one customer; if you see their stock prices dip in the coming weeks, you’ll know why. Marilyn loved spending her summers in Lake George and, in her younger years, her winters in Bonita Springs and Naples, FL. Marilyn loved the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the New York Football Giants, and the New York Yankees. But, even more, Marilyn loved her family.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn is predeceased by her siblings, Linda Young (Bob), Donald Waters (Patricia), Kenneth Waters (Carole), David (Sharron) Waters, and her cherished aunt, Cheryl Waters.
Marilyn is survived by her husband of seventy-three years, Warren W. Fane, Sr. and their four sons, Warren W. Fane, Jr. (Rowanne), Gregory Fane, Sr. (Deborah), Donald Fane (Lisa), and Kent Fane (Lori). Marilyn is also survived by her fifteen grandchildren: Matthew Fane (Casey Ryan), Samantha Mahoney (Patrick), Brittany Cioffi (Michael), Brent Fane (Jennifer), Gregory Fane, Jr. (Heather), Derek Fane (Amy), Warren T. Fane, Tyler Fane (Aliza), Zachary Fane (Sarah), Scott Fane (Karen), Alyssa Otis (Rick), Cody Fane, Brooke Fane (Jim Perniciaro), Jared Fane (Maria), Luke Fane (Joelean), and twenty-one great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Survivors also include Marilyn’s youngest brother, Randy Waters, her sister-in-law, Carolyn Coleman, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Marilyn’s wonderful caregivers who became family themselves: Audrey, Brenda, Helen, Jo Ann, Kathy, Kim and Micki; not only did they provide loving care, but they served as Marilyn’s confidants and shopping partners. We are eternally grateful for them.
