Obituary of Javier Cardona
Javier Cardona, 40, of Summit Avenue, Troy, beloved son of Maria Moreno and the late Oscar Cardona, entered into eternal life at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, December 6, 2025.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Javier was a graduate of Crossroads High School.
Javier was a kind, thoughtful, and funny soul whose presence brought joy to everyone around him. He was athletic in his younger years and spent much of his youth playing basketball, a sport he loved deeply. He had a great sense of humor and an incredible knowledge of sports—especially boxing, baseball, and basketball—and could share stories, stats, and history with passion and excitement. Javier was also an avid collector, proudly collecting sports cards and coins throughout the years. Above all, he was a God-fearing man who found strength and comfort attending his mother’s church, Alfa and Omega.
Beloved son of Maria Moreno and the late Oscar Cardona, Javier was the devoted brother of Jeannie, Vanessa, Lisette, and the late Louis. He was the loving uncle of Julien and Jonah (children of Jeannie); Dilan, Jamie “Jimmy,” and Amanda (children of the late Louis); and Louis Lind (child of Lisette). He is also survived by several dear cousins, aunts, and uncles.
The family also wishes to thank the Troy Police Department, who were always there for Javier with kindness and understanding. Their support meant so much to him and to all of us.
Relatives and friends are invited to the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182, on Monday, December 15, 2025, for Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12 Noon, where at 12 Noon the Funeral Service will be held.
Javier’s spirit is now at peace in the presence of the Lord he loved. He will be remembered for his beautiful heart, his faith, his love for his family, and the joy he brought into so many lives. He loved to talk about sports and share his knowledge and stories, and his laughter and warmth will never be forgotten. Though he is no longer with us, we are comforted by the words of Scripture that he declared daily. He would recite the entire Psalm 91 each day:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, ‘He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust.’” — Psalm 91:1-2
