Obituary of Philip R. Sawyer
Philip R. “Dick” Sawyer, 91, of Glenville, formerly of Halfmoon, died December 23, 2025 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
Born July 29, 1934 in Boothbay Harbor, Maine to Philip Reed Sawyer and Gladys Greenleaf Sawyer he grew up in Boothbay Harbor and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School in 1952. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1958. Dick worked for Aircraft Turbine Service in Westbury and Bay Shore, NY for 38 years.
Dick was the loving husband of the late Marilyn Sawyer whom he married on August 18, 1962, Devoted father of John (Sheila) Sawyer and Robert Sawyer; cherished grandfather of Bailey, Payton, Riley, Maggie and Philip Sawyer, also survived by his sister Shirley and one niece and one nephew.
Dick was a member of the Seaside Masonic Lodge #144 of Boothbay Harbor, Maine and an usher at the Lutheran Church of the Epiphany, Hempstead, NY. He and Marilyn lived in Commack, NY for 45 years and Dick was always attentive to his sons’ sports activities and enjoyed car shows. They relocated to Clifton Park in 2007 to spend more time with their grandchildren and loved their new home. He was a member of the Halfmoon Senior Center for many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family on Friday, January 2, 2026 for Calling Hours from 11 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and for the Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. both in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9 Clifton Park, NY 12065 which will be followed by a Committal Service with Military Honors at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY that afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The Sawyer family would like to express their most sincere appreciation to the staff of Judson Meadows Assisted Living for the wonderful care provided to Dick and Marilyn while they were residents.
