Obituary of Rose Kutzer

Wynantskill - Rose Kutzer, 97, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Albany Medical Center, with her daughter Irene by her side.

Born in Kalyczawa, Ukraine, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Anna (Lysykanycz) Klem. Rose endured the hardships and unrest of World War II before immigrating to the United States on March 17, 1950, to begin a new life.

Later that year, she married William Kutzer on November 11, 1950. Together they shared more than 68 years of marriage until his passing. A devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, Rose raised five children while also pursuing a career as a talented seamstress. She worked for Marshall Ray and Standard Manufacturing in Troy from 1950 until her retirement in 1991.

Rose found joy in playing bingo, visiting the racino, and spending time with family and friends. A skilled Ukrainian cook, she was especially known for her delicious pyrohy and holubchi, which were staples at family gatherings and celebrations.

Deeply devoted to her faith and Ukrainian heritage, Rose was a founding member of Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Troy, where she worshipped, and was a member of it's Sisterhood and the Rosary Society, until the parish closed in 2019. She later became a parishioner of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Watervliet, where she continued attending services and was always impeccably dressed.

Rose cherished the family home her husband built and could often be found relaxing on her porch swing on sunny days. Her greatest pride was raising five college-educated children and watching them build meaningful lives and families of their own. She treasured the friendships and cultural connections she found within the local Ukrainian community.

Rose was the beloved wife of the late William Kutzer; devoted mother of Irene (Kevin) Griffith of Bradenton, Fla., Roman (Carla) Kutzer of Troy, the late Peter (Olenka) Kutzer of Troy, William Michael Kutzer of Wynantskill, and Stefanie (Anthony) Micare of Halfmoon; cherished Baba of Roman and the late Colin Griffith; Erik and Karissa Kutzer; Natalia (John) Burkart and Mark (Kayla) Kutzer; Shanleigh and Colin Kutzer; and Andrew and Alex Micare; and adored Great-Baba of Mila and Griffin Burkart and Chloe and Kiran Kutzer.

She was the loving sister of the late Wasyl (late, Anna) Klem, the late Mary (late, Stefan) Konowalczuk, the late Anna (late, Michael) Fil, and Katerina (late David) Turner. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews in both the United States and Ukraine.

Funeral will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026 at 8:45 a.m. from the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, (Corner of 115^th Street and Fourth Avenue) in Lansingburgh thence to St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 2410 Fourth Avenue, Watervliet, NY 12189 where the Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. where the Parastas will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Interment will be held in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Colonie.
