Obituary of Margaret G. Berthiaume

Margaret G. "Peg" Berthiaume, 97, a resident of Heritage House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and a former resident of Sage Hill Lane, Brunswick, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

Born in Norwich, CT, Margaret Mary was the daughter of Frederick and Mary Helen "Marie" Delaney Gauthier.  Peg was the beloved wife of Maurice E. Berthiaume who passed in May, 1999.  Maurice and Peg celebrated fifty years of marriage in 1996.  They shared the enjoyment of their grandchildren, children, beach house and the sea and many cruises. 

Margaret was a graduate of Willimantic, CT, State Teachers College from where she earned her Teachers' Certificate.   She thereafter earned her NYS Certificate.

Peg taught elementary school grades in the Wethersfield, CT School District prior to raising her family.  She enjoyed reading about history and gardening her roses.

Peg was the Sisters of Mercy substitute volunteer teacher at Our Lady of Victory School, Troy.  She was a member of the parish Altar Rosary Society and with the help of many parish ladies, she coordinated the Sisters' annual food pantry collection for several years.  In their active parishioner years, Peg and Maurice participated in the parish RENEW program in addition to chairing the RCIA Program along with the parish team.

Devoted mother of Ed, Jim "Bertie"(Valerie), and Chris (Stu);  she was a proud grandma of Ayn (Jason) Yeagle, Dev (K.C.) Berthiaume, Eamonn (Jillian) Clancy and Jul Clancy and great grandma of Macy and Mia Yeagle and Parker Berthiaume.  Additionally, Peg is survived by her sisters in law, Theresa, Gertrude and Frances, wives of her late brothers, Fred, Matt and Tom, respectively.  Several nieces and a nephew survive.

Services are  private and there are no public calling hours.  There will be a private interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy.

The family thanks the employees and residents at Heritage House for  many years of medical attention and support and friendship.  We thank Mrs. Ellie Fagan and Mrs. Barb Musial for their support as well as Mr. Mike Barna for his help.
