Obituary of Philip J. Dahlmeyer, Jr.

Please share a memory of Philip to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Philip J. “Phil” Dahlmeyer, Jr., 78 of Clifton Park and formerly of Northford, CT, beloved husband for 50 years of Maureen Mulleedy Dahlmeyer, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving family on Friday, October 6, 2023.

Phil was the devoted father of Meghan Dahlmeyer of Wallingford, CT and Erin (Josh) Ives of Mechanicville, NY, cherished grandfather and “Pops” of Madeleine Ives and Asher Ives, loving brother of Kris (Ron) Jenkin and Lisa (Chase Myer) Dahlmeyer and is also survived by several wonderful nieces and nephews. Phil was predeceased by his sister Susie (husband, Bob) Lac.

Born in New Haven, CT, he was the son of the late Philip J. and Gertrude King Dahlmeyer, Sr. He was a graduate of Branford High School before attending Syracuse University. He then served as an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 through 1967 and received his Honorable Discharge, the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Small Arms Marksmanship Ribbon and the National Defense Service Medal.

Phil loved sharing stories about Branford, from childhood adventures with his siblings, to heydays in Short Beach and meeting Maureen. They moved to Northford and spent 40 years as residents, raising their girls and making lifelong friends before moving to New York in 2017. He welcomed any opportunity to hit the links with his golf buddies. Phil was actively involved in the local community and was a devout member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church, serving on the Parish Council and as a lector.

He served in many roles in town government, including Town Councilmember, Deputy Mayor, and member/Chairman of the Board of Education. Phil retired from Heritage Hills in Somers, NY after a long career in sales, corporate recruiting, and property management.

An accomplished athlete, he took great pride in coaching the girls when they were young and was an ever-present attendee at their various sporting events. A faithful fan of the Giants, Yankees and UConn, particularly UConn Women’s Basketball, he tailgated through the losses and celebrated the wins.

His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was a loving father with a talent for styling hair, painting nails, and cooking delicious breakfasts every morning. He took delight in bringing Maureen a hot cup of coffee to start each day. An accomplished cook who could master any recipe, he will be most remembered for his fried dough, perfect Manhattans, and the restorative powers of his whipped potatoes.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gordon C. Interment with full military honors is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12871.
