Obituary of Marilyn Hubbard

Rexford - Marilyn DeLong Hubbard passed away peacefully in hospice care at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady November 23, 2017 with her soul mate and loving husband of 48 years George Hubbard by her side, following a courageous 10 month battle with “non-small-cell” lung cancer. She was 69 years old.

She was born at Ellis on August 6, 1948, the daughter of the late Le Grand DeLong of Rexford and Rochelle Perreault DeLong. She was educated at Shenendehowa High School, Clifton Park, N.Y. (class of ’66) and graduated from Syracuse University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Home Ec. She did further business studies at Bentley College, Boston. Living in Boston for 14 years starting in 1970, she worked for the Wilder-Manley Corporation with offices on Long Wharf, where she became office manager and comptroller.

She moved back to Rexford in ’84. From ’85 to ’89 she and George owned and operated Northco Products, a retail Art & Drafting supplies store located on Central Avenue. After selling that business in ’89, Marilyn worked in Albany for the Research Foundation of the State University of New York, from which she retired in 2011. In retirement (and before), Marilyn and George liked to travel, especially in the Caribbean, as well as maintaining her family’s 200-plus year old home in Rexford.

Marilyn valiantly fought the disease that took her life. She was proud of the fact that she quit smoking 32 years ago. She’d also beaten breast cancer in 2011&12.

Besides her husband, Marilyn is survived by her loving sister Julienne DeLong Sproat, brother in law Willard Sproat, their daughters Diane and Deborah and grandchildren Nate, Ali and Gabe Smith and Samantha and Will Chambers. Also an extended family of cousins, in-laws, nephews and nieces, and many friends and colleagues.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Wednesday Nov.29th at 7 pm at Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rte. 9 Clifton Park. Calling hours will precede the service from 5 to 7 pm. Burial of cremains will take place in Jonesville Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
