John was a great person and a great friend. We spent many years together sharing an office while we both worked at CHP. I enjoyed listening to his stories about growing up in Utica, running in the Boilermaker, serving in the Navy, and many more. Later, after our careers took us in different directions, John and I tried to continue our tradition of running in the Sockadethon, but we always met for breakfast at least once a year. I will miss him.
My deepest condolences.

My heart aches for all of you.I am still having trouble comprehending this terrible news. "Jack" as he was known to those of us who grew up with him, was an amazing and kind soul.I will never forget how he just showed up at the hospital in January of 1992 in Houston when he heard the news that Doug was not doing well.He sat by the bedside of his childhood friend & tried so very hard to let him know he was not ready to lose him. My 50th birthday was made so much sweeter by virtue of Jack joining us on an RV wine tour in the finger lakes. He added a special sparkle everywhere he went.I have no doubt that he, Brad & Doug are enjoying some time together once again & reminiscing on the shenanigans of their old days. Every time I hear the song "Saturday in the Park" I think of Jack because he & Doug made me buy them the 45 on one my my trips to the mall as a kid.It will be difficult to smile when I hear that song now. I am so terribly sorry for your loss & I truly wish I could be with you all today to pay my respects.Much love from Virginia, from myself, Betsy, her brother Larry, Jake & his wife Jill.

To the family of John Goodman:
Please accept my deepest condolences on your loss of John.
I don't believe I ever met any of you but I first got to know John when he worked for Community Health Plan back in the early 1990s. In fact, I was the person who hired him. He became a good friend and remained one even as our career paths moved us to different places over the next 30 years or so. We stayed in touch mainly through occasional breakfast get togethers with our mutual friend and former colleague at CHP Bruce Heap. These breakfasts were always lovely occasions to reconnect and reminisce and I always looked forward to them. John was a good and decent man. I left the Capital District after I retired to live in Lake Placid in the northern Adirondacks three years ago. Because of the distance to the funeral home and some other pressing matters that I need to attend to here, I'm unable to come down to pay my respects in person. However I will make a contribution to the American Heart Association in John's memory as you've requested.
With sincere sympathy,
Peter Aliferis

I worked with John for many many years in 2 of his previous jobs and considered him not only a co-worker but a friend. He was one of the most kind hearted men I have been blessed to have known. No matter what he was going through in his life he always kept a positive attitude and a smile on his face. When John asked you how you were doing it wasn't just a passing question, he truly wanted to know and always took the time to listen even if it meant being a little late for something. I saw John in the parking lot of Saratoga hospital a couple of months ago and he was on his way to lunch. We were talking for some time and when I said you better get going or you won't have time to eat he responded "no big deal I can eat tonight I want catch up with you". John was a man of honor not only in service to his country but in his everyday life. I have no doubt he heard these words Well done good and faithful servant.

I have worked with John in the IT department at Saratoga Hospital since he was first hired with us. We are still in disbelief he is gone. He was true to his name – a very Good Man, who never had a bad thing to say and always looked at the positive side of things. We would call him “Doppler John” because he would give us the weather report after his daily lunch walk since he was often the first one to venture out. He was great at his job and was wonderful to work with. It is truly difficult to lose someone so quickly and so unexpectedly. My heart goes out to his family and I will be keeping you in my thoughts. He was very special and I will miss him immensely.
