Obituary of Bernard E. Kinahan, Jr.

Bernard E. “Barney” Kinahan, Jr., 81, of Nassau, peacefully entered eternal life on Sunday, March 29, 2020. Born in Yonkers, New York, he was the son of the late Bernard E. and Gladys Pollock Kinahan, Sr., and was a graduate of Gorton High School in Yonkers and then earned his degree in Electrical Engineering from RCA Institute. Bernard had been employed for many years at HESS as a Station Manager in their East Greenbush, Latham and former River Street in Troy locations. He was an avid hiker who had a love of the mountains in the Adirondack's as well as in Arizona, many of which he had climbed. He was a member of the Nassau United Methodist Church where he volunteered regularly for many years in the Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry. Bernie also helped transport rescued animals for the local veterinarian in Nassau. Most of all, he loved history and especially that of the Civil War of which he played a re-enactor for many years as a Confederate Soldier. He was predeceased by his four siblings; Thomas Kinahan, Martha Kinahan, William Kinahan who is survived by his wife Betty of Spring Hill, Fl and Doris (late, George) Thompson. Devoted Uncle of Maryann (late, Kevin Strope) O'Brien of Cohoes, Michelle Aricgal (Michael) of Cold Springs, FL, William Kinahan (Nancy) of Readding, CT and Kevin Kinahan (Diana) of Brandon, FL, great uncle of Brandon Thompson (fiancé Alicia Welch) of East Greenbush, Briana Mason of Cohoes, Alexa Faith, Jude, Nicholas and Eleanor Aricgal all of Cold Springs, FL, Julie and Brian Kinahan both of Readding, CT, also survived by his loving canine constant companion; Sabel. Due to present restrictions and limitations, the entombment will be held at a later date and time to be announced with military honors in the Oakland Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
