Obituary of William C. Piel, Jr.
(“BILL” “LUMPY”)
William C. Piel, Jr., well known as “Bill” or “Lumpy”, peacefully entered into eternal life at his residence on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
Born in Troy, he was the son of the late William C. and JoAnn C. Bulmer Piel, Sr. He was he graduate of Troy High School.
He entered the work force young and was well known amongst the community. He spent decades as a well-known fixture on the restaurant floor, as a loyal server and behind the counter cook, at the former “Burkee’s”- Marty Burke’s South End Tavern.
In his later years, Bill became an accomplished craftsman. He was most proud of the recent completion of his daughter’s remodeled home. He hand-built the beautiful home for his daughter, son-in-law and beloved grandchildren that will forever hold his spirit. Handyman is an understatement. He could fix everything and could make anything run again. He was also very proud of his hand-crafted motorized bike.
Bill loved his music and was a talented guitarist. He was able to share and pass down his passion for music to son, who is also a talented musician. We will forever hold on to our countless memories of “jamming” and making music with Lump.
Anyone who knew Bill has at least two memorable “Lumpy stories”; usually one good and one bit more questionable. He will be forever known for his bold and outrageous humor. He could make anyone hysterically laugh with his animated and often embellished storytelling.
Bill is survived by his two devoted children; Amanda (Zack) DiPierro and Eric Piel and their mother Lynn Amos Coffey, his siblings, Terry (Steve) Houser, Patty Savino, Nancy Wickham, Danny Piel, Christine Piel and Larry Piel, his cherished grandchildren, Aidah DiPierro and Caleb DiPierro, also survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family and innumerable friends.
