Denny,Betty and family,
It saddened me to hear of the passing of your father. I have fond memories of "Louie" from my time spent with the Speigleaires and hanging out at your place on 5th ave.
I recall being in the equipment truck with him and addressing him as Mr. VanWie and him saying to me, "just call me Louie". I also remember when he drove Denny, Richie Scanlon, Denny Murisky and me to a drum corps event near Boston in his Ford Crown Victoria.
Louie was a good man. He always wore a smile and was forever upbeat. A role model for those fortunate enough to know him. A man deserving respect.
So, with respect Mr. VanWie, I salute you and thank you for your service to our country.

I am so sorry to hear of Mr. VanWie's passing.
"Louie" was such a cool and generous person when we were growing up.
A little story that I have told to many people in my travels was when twenty minutes before we were to take off to a Speiglaire's event; he lent me his car, to a sixteen year old with a permit and a couple of friend's to go to the bottom of Oil Mill Hill to a liquor store so we could buy a couple of pints of booze to take on the trip with us.
It was a different time. Back when there was moral in this country !
I always like Denny and Betty and consider them life long friends.
Some years back I ran into Denny just before he retired from delivering gasoline and we reminisced about the "old" days and he told me his father was doing fine.
Thank you for your service !
We have lost a great human being I'll never forget.

Mary and family. So sorry for your loss. May you all be comforted by the fond memories you have of him. It’s been years but I am recalling the many parades we celebrated from your Fifth Ave. home. Lou had a quick wit and great smile. God Bless.b
