I met Bernie in the Vischer Ferry Nature Preserve about two years or so ago. He walked with his corgi along sections of the Tow Path where I did trail maintenance. He always stopped to chat so we had quite a few conversations. Harry, his corgi, was very frisky and friendly. It was always a very pleasant break, from my work, to talk with Bernie.
I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing today (July 12th, 2021). I will keep those fond memories of Bernie and will sense his presence along the Tow Path, as I pass along it.
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss.

Thinking of you, Gena, and the rest of your family right now. I'm really grateful for the time your Dad was able to visit us in Chapel Hill with your Gram, and the laughs we had (and that bottle of sangria!). I know how incredibly proud he was of everything that you've accomplished and the strong, independent woman he raised. With deepest sympathy, Rachel & Adam

My deepest sympathy to hear of the passing of Bernard. He would come to see us at the Clifton Park SEFCU, usually with Harry whenever he needed banking done. He was always incredibly kind to all of us and we would give Harry plenty of dog treats! We will miss seeing Bernard and his sunny disposition.

We are so sorry to hear of Bernie's passing. He was larger than life. We remember him running throughout Clifton Park, and sprinting his last section toward home. You could hear him coming from around the corner. He was devoted to his kids, taking them (and our daughter Jessica) camping, and disciplined, insisting his kids try harder when their grades were less than he expected. We see Gena following his quest for perfection, and we applaud her. He (and Lilly) were great role models, and he will live on in our minds and his kids' deeds.

I only had a few occasions to meet and speak with Bernie. He was a guy I will never forget. Great laugh, humor, big heart and welcoming. Smart as a whip but no pretenses at all. So sad when we lose a guy I would consider " salt of the earth". Blessed to have crossed paths!
