Obituary of Robert J. Gillespie
Robert J. “Bob” Gillespie, 88, formerly of Woodridge Court in Clifton Park, NY and Naples, FL, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 4, 2021.
Born in Troy, New York, he was the son of James W. and Katheryn Duffney Gillespie and the beloved husband for 57 years of Jeane M. Wood Gillespie, until her passing on February 22, 2013. Bob was a graduate of Waterford High School and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Albany State University.
Bob was a U.S. Army veteran and was bestowed the Sharpshooter (Rifle) and Good Conduct Medals while serving as a Military Policeman.
Bob spent his career as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative with Dow Chemical Company. Along with his family also owned and operated the Sunset Banquet House as well as The Colonial Restaurant, both in Troy.
He was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church in Clifton Park.
Devoted father of David R. (Robin) Gillespie of Naples, Fl and Scott D. (Diane) Gillespie of Dallas, TX, brother of Ronald “Ronnie” (late, Marilyn) Gillespie of Waterford, brother of Rodger (Helena) Gillespie of California and Edward (Aloma) Osterhout of North Carolina, Cherished grandfather of Steven (Emily), Jacquelyn (Thomas McNulty), Michelle (Carter), Daniel (Taylor), Robert (Carrie), Jay and Kelly (Jamie) and great-grandfather of 8. Bob is survived by several nieces and nephews and is also the brother-in-law of Elizabeth Stanton of Indianapolis, IN and Nancy Carter of Albany, NY.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 912 RT-146, Clifton Park, NY 12065 with inurnment to be held in St. George’s Church Columbarium, Clifton Park.
There are no public calling hours.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to hospice program of their choice or to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, in memory of Robert J. “Bob” Gillespie.
