Obituary of Lois Jean Jerwann
Lois Jean Jerwann, 96 years old, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2021. She was born in Johnstown, PA on May 22, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Lester and Kathleen (Chapman) Pebley.
She was a graduate of Johnstown High School and Conemaugh Valley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing (Johnstown, PA), where she was a “Cadet Nurse” during World War II. After becoming a Registered Nurse, she took a course in Operating Room Technique at the Graduate Hospital, in Philadelphia, PA. Subsequently, she attended the University of Pennsylvania, in Philadelphia, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education. During her nursing career, she worked at the University Hospital, in Philadelphia, Good Samaritan Hospital, in Los Angeles, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, in New York City, VA Hospital and St. Peter’s Hospital, in Albany, NY.
Lois came to Albany, NY as a bride, having married William Jerwann on August 17, 1955. At the time of her husband’s passing (2020), they had been married for 65 years.
She was a member and Past Matron of Eastern Star #379, Past Queen of Cyrene Temple #18, Daughters of the Nile, and the “Ripe Tomatoes” of the Red Hat Society in Clifton Park. Lois was a member of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church.
Lois leaves her son Kevin, his wife Colleen (Behan) Jerwann and their daughter Kathryn; a son Keith and his wife Susan (Litter) Jerwann. She also leaves her siblings Dr. Harry Pebley of San Diego, CA, Rev. Allen Pebley of Jackson, MI and Kathleen Pebley of Surprise, AZ.
The family wishes to express their thanks for the care she received at Glendale Home and Judson Meadows.
There will be no viewing hours. Private burial will be at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with a private service at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory of Lois Jerwann may be made to the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church, 971 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
