I met Joan a few years ago at a Nippon Convention. It was exciting for me to meet her as I had her books on Nippon. She was kind and fun and a treasure to all the Nippon collectors. She will be missed.

I've known Joan since the late 1970s when our love of Nippon porcelain brought us together. We both loved antiques and collecting, and we spent many, many happy hours hunting, researching, and sharing our passion. She was one of a kind - a great friend and I'll always treasure the time we spent together. On behalf of myself and the International Nippon Collectors Club, I want to extend my sympathy to the family. I know she was much loved and will be missed.

I am very sad to hear about the passing of my dear, longtime friend Joan. We grew up together in Fort Johnson and attended Fort Johnson Grade School together. I was a year older than her. Didn’t pal around too much after that but eventually in Clifton Park, my parents and hers used to see each other at breakfast at the old Carl’s restaurant in Clifton Park Center.
Joan and I reconnected many years later at a Red Hat Society meeting. We were so excited to see each other. Her passing reminds me of the many good times we had organizing and going to Red Hat functions. We would ride together and always save a seat for each other at meetings and other functions.
I got to know Wendy, Kristi and their children through gatherings at Joan's house and know the sadness they must feel.
She will be greatly missed and I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers.

Joan was my best and dearest friend. I met Joan during a Red Hat function in the 90's and we became friends. Joan has meant the world to me and was my right arm when I was planning Red Hat conventions and large luncheons. Words cannot say how much I loved and will miss her. I pick up the phone to tell her of some news that she so looked forward to hearing. The pain and the emptiness in my heart will not go away. Joan, I loved you and will forever honor and miss you until we meet again.

I was informed by Mr. Aoyagi of her passing away.
I feel deep sadness but also I thank her all the good things to me related "Nippon piece" I became to know "Nippon pieces " by her books and become to love all those pieces and my collection give me energy to live on even my age of 77 . I still remember all the good days of conventions and, especially, my visit to her house with Mr and Mrs Hirohata , great grandson of Varon Morimura and admired her great collection. Also we invited her to our exhibition celebrating 150 years since opening up of Yokohama harbor at Sankeien museum, Yokohama city.
With all those memory , I miss her very much .
Regards Jun Mizuhiro, ex-member of INCC, in Tokyo, Japan.
