Obituary of Donald Ray Horner

Donald Ray Horner, 90, of Firehouse Rd. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at his home in the loving care of his family. He was born on April 14, 1932 in Vici, OK and was the son of the late Ernest E. and Ruby Hindman Horner. Don was educated in the Vici school system and was discharged as a Sgt. from the US Army in 1953 after serving honorably during the Korean War. During the War, Don earned the Korean service medal, 2 Bronze service stars and the UN service medal. He lived in Wichita, Kansas for a number of years before moving to Rensselaer and eventually moving to Halfmoon in 1963. He had been the Park manager for the former Springbrook Park, today Garden Homes, retiring in 2011. He was a kind and generous neighbor to all and loved his Springbrook community. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and hunting. Don really enjoyed following the #352 with his son-in-law on the CVRA racing circuit. He had been a member of the F & AM Lodge in Colonie. Don was a member of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park since 1967. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley Steves Horner, whom he married August 14, 1960.
He is the devoted father of Vicki Proctor of Halfmoon; step father of the late Steve and Stan Barrett, both brothers killed in Vietnam; brother of Geraldine Witzk and Caroline "Kay" Horner; beloved Papa to Shawn (Jeremy) Eggleston and Leeann Proctor; cherished Great Papa to Kendall, Natalee and Trevor Eggleston, who he visited every day, often bringing them special treats.
Don was predeceased by his son-in-law John Proctor and brothers Eldon "Uncle Buck", John and Merle Horner; also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held on Monday at 1:30 pm in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, New York 12065 with Pastor Lee Carlson, Pastor of Shenendehowa United Methodist Church officiating.
Calling hours will be from 11:00am - 1:30pm Monday in the funeral home prior to the service.
Interment will be in Waterford Rural Cemetery, Waterford, New York.
