Obituary of Calvin J. Kenyon
Calvin J. Kenyon, 87, went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
Born January 1, 1935 in West Stephentown, New York at home during a blizzard, he was the eldest son of the late Joseph Ambrose Kenyon and Helen Rice Kenyon Johnson.
Calvin led a life filled with friends, family and antiques. He was a graduate of Averill Park High School and SUNY Cobleskill. After graduating with a degree in Agriculture, Calvin served in the US Army. He worked at Ceramacil in Nassau for several years before joining NYSEG, where he worked 30 years, retiring in 1994.
After retirement, Calvin and his wife Suzanne were blessed to spend 28 years traveling and volunteering at various faith based retreat centers including 2 years with the SOWERS (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready Serving), Word of Life in Hudson, FL and Sacandaga Bible Conference in Broadalbin, NY.
Calvin was a long time and active member of West Stephentown Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, Deacon, and Financial Secretary. He was also a youth leader with Jet Cadets and a member of the Bible Believers. He was a member of the Stephentown Historical Society, and a member of the Hillside Cemetery Committee.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Suzanne Rhenow Kenyon; two children, Lori Christine Kenyon (Richard) Farley of Newport Beach, CA, and Joseph Alan (Sharon) Kenyon of Scotia, NY; his beloved grandsons, Matthew Joseph, and Joshua William Kenyon; a younger brother, John F. (Sandra “Sandy”) Kenyon, and many adored nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
The family wishes to thank the many friends, work colleagues, brothers and sisters in Christ that contributed together to Calvin’s blessed and fruitful life.
Family and friends are invited to attend a service of remembrance and celebration of Calvin’s life on Tuesday, August 23rd at 6:00 PM at the West Stephentown Baptist Church, 1672 NY 43, Stephentown, New York 12169 with the Rev. Tryg Tomlinson, Pastor, officiating. An hour of visitation will begin at 5:00 PM.
The interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
