Obituary of Marilyn A. Sawyer

Marilyn A. Sawyer, 83, of Swaggertown Road died on Sunday Oct. 23, 2022 at Ellis Hospital.  She was born on June 28, 1939 in Rockville Centre, NY to F. Philipp Uhlmann and Elisabeth Eckmann Uhlmann.  Grew up in West Hempstead (Lakeview) NY, graduated West Hempstead High School in 1957.  Pursued a secretarial course at Browne’s Business School in Hempstead, NY.   She worked as a secretary/assistant office manager at Blu Strike Blade Company in New York City for a number of years.

 

Marilyn was a Sunday School teacher at Christ Lutheran Church, East Northport, NY and a Cub Scout Den Mother for Pack 405 in Commack, NY.  Marilyn was always involved with her sons’ Little League teams and bowling leagues.  She enjoyed nature, star-gazing, gardening, birding, ceramics and bowling.  She was a member of the Halfmoon Senior Citizens.

 

Marilyn is survived by her loving husband, Philip R. “Dick” Sawyer, whom she married on August 18, 1962.  Also survived by her devoted sons, John (Sheila) Sawyer of Clifton Park, NY and Robert (Anya) Sawyer of Atlantic Highlands, NJ; her cherished grandchildren, Bailey and Payton Sawyer of Clifton Park and Riley, Maggie and Philip Sawyer all of Atlantic Highlands, NJ.  She was the sister of the late Philip E. Uhlmann. 

 

Funeral will be held on Tuesday Nov. 1, 2022 at 11:30 am in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.

 

Calling hours will be from 9:30 – 11:30 am Tuesday in the funeral home prior to the service.

 

Entombment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, NY.

 

Special thanks from the family to the staff of Judson Meadows for the wonderful care given to Marilyn while she was a resident.  Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
