Obituary of Gabrielle M. Gurney
Gabrielle M. “Gabby” Gurney, also known as “Miss Gabby” and “Gigi”, 31 of Schaghticoke, beloved daughter of Jeffrey D. and Michele A. (Ratigan) Gurney and her loving companion since 2014 Zachery M. Burdick, peacefully passed away following a courageous two-year-long battle with cancer on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at Samaritan Hospital in Troy.
Born in Albany, New York, to Michele and Jeff, she was a graduate of Hoosic Valley Central Schools, earned her AAS in Business from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy and continued her education at the College of St. Rose in Albany.
Gabby, as she was affectionately known, was employed by CEO as a Pre-K teacher at the Hoosic Valley Elementary School in Schaghticoke. In her free time, she loved crafting, camping, kayaking, trips to the ocean, backyard campfires, and, in recent years, she enjoyed frugal trips to casinos. Above all else, Gabby cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Beloved daughter of Michele and Jeff, loving companion of Zack, devoted sister of Alexandra C. (Nick) Walrath, cherished granddaughter of Elizabeth E. (DeFreest) Ratigan and the late John H. “Mr. Fantastic” Ratigan and of Beverly A. (Robarge) Gurney and Guy G. Gurney Jr., adoring aunt of Ryan Marie, Delia and twins Jaxon and Jayce, cherished niece of Grace (Kenny) Murray, Michael (Pamela) Ratigan, Kevin (Juline) Gurney and Guy (Jodi) Gurney, also survived by her loving cousins and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours celebrating Gabby’s life with her family on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th St. in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182.
Gabbys’ family would like to invite you to share a photo(s) that you may have (of her alone or with a group) and place them in her “Memory Box” that will be available at the funeral home during calling hours. Her family wishes to compile photo albums using the photos and have them added to her Memorial Video that will continue to be available on her page on the funeral home website.
The Gurney family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses of the ICU at Samaritan Hospital. There are no words to convey how immensely thankful Gabby and her family are for everyone who kept her in their thoughts and prayers or contributed toward her courageous battle with cancer.
