Obituary of Rex S. Wood
Rex S. Wood, 69, of Halfmoon NY, beloved husband of Christine Andryszczyk Wood, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in New London, CT, he was the son of the late Daniel E. and Althe Henry Wood. He moved to New York and graduated from Willsboro High School in 1971. He then attended North Country Community College.
He proudly served in the United States Army from 1974-1977 with the Military Police as a gunman aboard the Presidential Helicopter. He was honorably discharged and received the Presidential Service Badge/Good Conduct Medal. He then went on to work for the Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, New York from 1978-2009, where he retired from his career as Criminal Investigator for VISN 2. He also worked part time for the Mechanicville Police Department for 20 years.
Some of his favorite hobbies included hiking, biking, attending grandchildrens’ sporting events and spending time at their Florida vacation home. Rex and his wife, Christine, loved to travel after they retired. Their favorite places included Alaska, Maine, Hawaii and throughout the United States. They also loved Paris, Bahamas, Mexico and Canada.
Devoted father of Michele (James) Barron, Nicholas Wood, April (Kevin) Brustle , Jeremy (Sarah) Wood; step-father of Marissa Hebert and Michael (April) Palermo; brother of Ken (Sandra) Wood and the late Daniel (late Rose) Wood; cherished grandfather to: Ashley, William, Emma, Ella, Ethan, Christian, Joshua, Micah, Hannah, Ryan, Evan, Kailey, Maximus, and Zachary. Also survived by Judy Wood Zeno (Doug), Stacy Wood and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to City Mission of Schenectady, Saratoga Hospice or American Cancer Society in memory of Rex S. Wood.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church in Crescent, NY 12188
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065 on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
Inurnment with full military honors will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
