Obituary of Stephen J. Christopher
Stephen J. (Steve) Christopher, 96, of Halfmoon passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2023 after a short illness.
Stephen was born on February 20, 1926, in Cohoes, NY and was the son of the late Alex and Louisa Christopher. He was predeceased by his brothers: Daniel J. Christopher (Katherine), Cohoes: Rocco A. Christopher (Elinor), Clifton Park; and Alfred A. Christopher (Mary), Monaca, PA.
Stephen was a graduate of Sacred Heart School and Cohoes High School, class of 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1944-1946, in the Pacific and Stateside. When his service ended, he briefly worked for Western Electric and Westinghouse. He began a long career at General Electric in Schenectady and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory (KAPL) in West Milton. Prior to his retirement he served as Lead Planning Specialist at the West Milton site.
Faith and family were always foremost in Stephen’s mind. He was the beloved husband of Donna Tizzone Christopher of Colonie. They married on October 25, 1953. They lived for 64 years in the home Stephen built, with his own hands, on Route 236, Halfmoon. They were longtime communicants of St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park. In January 2022, Stephen moved to Coburg Village, Rexford, NY until his illness.
Steve and Donna loved to travel. They traveled extensively throughout North America, Europe, and the islands of Bermuda, Bahamas, and Hawaii. They enjoyed vacationing each year at their timeshare in Hilton Head, SC. He enjoyed golf, bowling, and in his younger years, deer hunting. He enjoyed watching football and became an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. He was a member of various social and fraternal organizations. He spent countless hours in his home workshop.
Stephen is survived by his nieces and nephews: David Christopher, JoAnn Lawton, the late Daniel Christopher, Donald Christopher, the late Diane Christopher, Alex Christopher, Alfred Christopher, Jr, Peter Christopher, Louise Stashak, Stephen Christopher, Pamela Linnan, Shelia Nevins, CJ LaFalce, Joseph Tizzone, Angela Preisman, and Mary Tizzone. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Funeral will be held Friday, February 10 at 10 AM at St. Edward the Confessor, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd, Clifton Park, NY 12065 where a funeral mass will be celebrated by Rev. Patrick Butler.
Calling hours will be held between 9 and 10 at St. Edwards prior to the funeral mass.
Interment with military honors will be at the Gerald B. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church of Saint Edward the Confessor in Clifton Park or Mary’s Haven, 35 New Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
