Obituary of Donald J. Wolf
Donald J. “Don” Wolf, 77 of Troy, beloved husband for 51 years to Elizabeth C. “Liz” Emmick Wolf of Troy, peacefully entered into eternal life with his family along his side on Monday, February 27, 2023.
Born in Kingston, New York, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Janice Freer Wolf, was a graduate of Kingston High School and attended Ulster County Community College before going on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a Captain in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Two Overseas bars, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device “60” and the Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC) and his Honorable Discharge in 1970. Don continued his service with the NYS Army National Guard in Kingston and was Commanding Officer in Leeds and Catskill, NY.
Don retired as a Division Manager form Stewart’s Ice Cream Co. after working for 29 years in both the Capital District and Hudson Valley Regions.
Don loved to travel with Liz and together they visited 48 states as well as over ¾ of the U.S. National Parks. Don was also an avid fisherman, hunter, and golfer.
Don was a Kiwanis Club Life Member, served as President and Treasurer in Troy, Secretary in New Paltz, Lt. Governor with the Van Rensselaer Division and again with the Hudson Valley Division. He was honored with Kiwanian of the Year in Troy and Kingston and received the highest Kiwanis honor, becoming a Kaiser Fellow.
Beloved husband of “Liz”, devoted father of Dr. David S. (fiancée Kelly Weller) Wolf of Harrisburg, PA and Christin Wolf of Troy, cherished grandfather of Lydia Wolf, dear brother; Wayne (Andrea) Wolf and Warren Wolf, all of La Vegas, NV, cherished Uncle of Jeff (Nancy) VanDemark of Little River, SC.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12182 and to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, 55 North Lake Ave, Troy, NY 12180.
A private committal service for the family with military honors will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, New York 12871.
The Wolf family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff at House B Hawthorne Memory Care in East Greenbush and Village Green Building 14 in Cohoes for their wonderful care.
