Obituary of Rev. James D. O'Neill
Father James D. O’Neill, born February 17, 1931 in Lancaster, New York to Martin and Arlene (Laney), passed peacefully to the Lord on March 2, 2023 at the Teresian House in Albany.
Ordained June 1, 1957, Father O’Neill served in several parishes in the Diocese of Albany including Holy Family (St. Patrick’s), Albany, St. Joseph’s (Nativity of the B.V.M), Stuyvesant, St. Joseph’s, Rensselaer, Holy Trinity (St. Patrick’s), Johnstown, Transfiguration Parish (St. Bonaventure’s), Speigletown, St. Joseph’s, Green Island and retired from St. Peter’s, Stillwater.
Father is survived by his sisters Eileen Hallenbeck, and Sharon (William) Jones, sister-in-law Patricia O’Neill and several nieces and nephews down to the 4th generation.
Along with his parents, Father was predeceased by his sister Kathleen and brother-in-law Harrington Conrad, his sister Mary Ann and brother-in-law Raymond Jones, his sister Maureen and brother-in law Bruce Farrinelli, sister Joanne and brother-in-law Phillip Raffiani, and brother Thomas O’Neill.
Father offers love and gratitude to all his loved ones; to Rev. Richard Shaw, and his extended family, parishioners and friends.
Father O’Neill wishes to offer his special thanks to Mary Carney, (who served as his Secretary at St. Bonaventure’s) for being his alter memory and friend.
The Rite of Reception of the Body will be celebrated Monday, March 6th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Transfiguration Parish (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Church in Speigletown), 50 Hillview Rd., Troy, NY 12182. Evening Prayer will be offered at 6:00 p.m.
On Tuesday morning, March 7th, Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Patrick, 21 Main St., Ravena, NY 12143 followed by Father O’Neill’s Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m.

The Rite of Committal will be held in St. Patrick's Cemetery, 82 Blaisdell Ave., Coeymans, NY 12143.
Funeral arrangements have been entrsuted to the White-Sanvidge Fuenral Home, 58 Leversee Rd. (RT-40 in Speigletown), Troy, New York 12182.
