Obituary of Patricia L. Flaherty

Patricia L. Flaherty, age 88, passed away on March 30, 2023 at a skilled nursing facility in Lake Placid, NY after complications from COVID in the setting of a long struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia.

Born in Troy, NY, Patricia was the daughter of Mazie Pearl Miller Bohne and Henry John Bohne. She had five siblings, all of whom predeceased her, including Dorothy Strait, Howard Bohne, Mazie Cross, Muriel Gabriel and Lionel Bohne. Patricia and her late husband, Robert R. Flaherty, raised their six daughters in Lansingburgh and Melrose, NY. Survivors include her children, Shawn D. Flaherty of Rainbow Lake, NY, Julie A. Flaherty of Charlotte, NC, Paula J. VanWert of Cross, SC, Kathleen P. Collins of Dallas, TX, June E. Flaherty of Englewood, FL, and Patricia (Patty) A. Flaherty of Charlotte, NC. She also had nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Prior to retiring and moving south with her husband, Patricia worked at the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board. Patricia loved music, which was a source of joy and comfort to her throughout her life, especially in her final years. She was singing and dancing just weeks before she passed away. She loved to spend time with her family, take her grandchildren to the beach, and take trips with family members and friends. She especially enjoyed a 1985 trip to Europe with her daughter, Kathleen. She loved being outdoors, enjoying nature, and taking long walks.

The funeral service will be at noon on April 5, 2023 at Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180. Relatives and friends are invited, and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Troy.

The family wishes to express their special gratitude to the nurses and CNAs who provided care on the dementia unit where Patricia L. Flaherty spent the last year of her life, especially nurses Krystal and Zylina, and CNAs Marla, Lovette, Ashley B and Candy. The family also expresses special thanks to High Peaks Hospice.
