Obituary of Sam Jura
Louis S. “Sam” Jura, 63, of Buskirk and formerly of Lansingburgh, beloved husband of “Dee-Dee” Diane J. Graham Jura, was taken from us too soon as a result of a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Schaghticoke on Saturday, July 8, 2023.
Born in Troy, N.Y., Sam was the son of the late Louis F. and Mary Theresa Desautel Jura and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1979.
Sam then served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees from 1980 to 1986 when he received his Honorable Discharge. He earned the Navy Battle Efficiency “E” Ribbon (Third), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with Stars and the Expert M-16 Rifle Medal.
Sam had been employed at Freihofer’s Baking Co. (Bimbo Bakeries USA) in Albany and prior to that, for many years was a Pressman/Printer at Alchar Printing in (Albia) Troy.
Sam adored and loved his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed kayaking, hiking, four-wheeling, snowshoeing, fishing, essentially becoming avid outdoorsman when he moved out into the country. He loved and was proud of his gardening and yard work to showcase Dee-Dee’s flowers. He also loved the sun, warmer climates and spending time in the Dominican Republic during the winter. Sam was also very involved with the Navy Seabees.
Beloved husband of “Dee-Dee”, devoted father of Christopher (Alexa) Jura and Jenna (Matt) Graber, step-father of Brent (Shelby) Scheerer, Calen (Caroline) Scheerer, Carly Scheerer and Olivia Minnick, brother of Catherine Jura (William Friers), Donna Vandenburgh (Todd), Lynn Underhill (Philip Shultes), Steven Jura (Terri O’Malley) and Tricia King (Steve Gosselin), cherished “Grandpa Sam” of Luke, Lucy and Ruby Jura, Jacob and Amelia Graber, Blake, Cohen and Tori Scheerer, Hailey Woods, Dawson, Sylas and Graham Scheerer and of Eden, Waylon and Lincoln Minnick, also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, July 13, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY, 12182.
Relatives and friends are also invited to continue to honor and celebrate Sam’s life on Friday, July 14th beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Dee-Dee and Sam’s residence. U.S. Navy honors will be offered there at 4:00 p.m.
