Obituary of Mary P. Slocum
Mary P. (Glynn) Slocum, 76, of Troy, beloved wife for over 50 years of the late James R. "Jim" Slocum, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Mary spent her life in Troy, she was the daughter of the late James and Evangeline Bennett Glynn and was educated at CCHS before graduating from Troy High School. She worked at St. Peter’s Health Partners/Seton Health Systems at Albany Memorial Hospital, previous to that was at Samaritan Hospital in their billing department where she retired after 40+ years.
Mary loved her beach trips to Rhode Island, where she and her family would spend their days at the beach and the evenings sitting outside their rooms at the Lighthouse Inn talking, laughing and sharing special memories. She loved to travel, go on cruises, watch endless HGTV episodes and most of all she loved her husband, children, grand children and great granddaughter Cora.
Mary leaves behind her two daughters Karen Slocum of Troy, NY and Trish Slocum of Somers, CT. Her sisters Merilyn (late, Anthony) Schrader of Binghamton, NY, Catherine (Dan) Brennan of Brunswick, Eileen (late, Richard) Gear of Phoenix, AZ, the late Lee (late, Barbara) Flynn and the late Michael Glynn. Her five grandchildren McKenzie Pew, Ryan, Grace, Max and Georgie Kelleher-Slocum, and her great granddaughter Cora Pew. In addition, she leaves behind her sisters-in-law of LouAnn (late, Bud) Behrens of Troy, the late Patricia (late, Richard) Goyer, the late Elaine Bisner and the late Jeanne Pratt. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Augustine's Church in Lansingburgh. Mary’s Funeral Mass will be livestreamed that morning for those not able to attend in person at https://tinyurl.com/2s3wpz65
Interment will be held in Elmwood Cemetery, Schaghticoke, NY.
Following the interment, Mary’s family invites you to the Speigletown Volunteer Firehouse, 146 Speigletown Rd., Troy, NY 12182, to join them at a reception to honor and continue celebrating her life.
The Slocum family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the Community Hospice Group for their compassionate care.
