Obituary of Irene Hayner Boynton

Irene Elizabeth Hayner Boynton passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 13, 2023 in Community Hospice care at the Home of the Good Shepherd.  Irene was born on the Hayner farm in Halfmoon on August 8, 1928.  The second child of Millard and Addie Anthony Hayner, she was the second of two girls and one boy.  She attended a one room schoolhouse in Halfmoon and graduated from Mechanicville High School in 1946.

Irene met Arthur Curtis Boynton at Troy Business College and they were married at the family farm on August 8, 1949.  Art’s job led them to the Southeastern area of the United States , to western New York and, in 1966, to Clifton Park.  Irene was a loving mother to Garry, Debra, Brenda and Chris.  Once the children were in school Irene began work in the Shenendehowa Central School cafeteria working her way to the bookkeeper for the program.  Irene worshipped at the Shenendehowa Methodist Church participating with the Edna Allen Circle.

Irene’s interests involved gardening, bowling, and spending time with her family and Art’s.   She truly enjoyed the pot lucks and the family dinners for the holidays.   The family camp at Hedges Lake was the site of many lasting memories as were the family cruises to the Bahamas, Mexico and Canada.  Irene and Art volunteered working for the National Park Service in Jacksonville to spend time near their daughters and their families.  Irene loved strawberry shortcake, the Hallmark Channel and listening to the Mets announcers.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Arthur as well as his siblings Eloise (Don) Bosch, Nancy (Forrest) Prindle and John (Mary) Boynton.

Survivors include her beloved sister Marjorie Madsen and brother Harvey (Carol) Hayner, son Garry (Barbara) Boynton, daughter Debra (John) LaCoste Neptune Beach, FL, daughter Brenda (Rob) Gillrup Jacksonville, FL and son Chris (Karen) Boynton; six grandchildren Katie (Devin) Jensen;  Curtis (Tabitha) Boynton; J.K. (Brittany) LaCoste; Jordan (Bridget) LaCoste; Daniel (Trina) Gillrup; Justin Gillrup and five great-grandchildren:  Brantley Jensen, Reagan, Kara, Kendall and Camille LaCoste.   She leaves many nephews, nieces, cousins and wonderful friends who dearly loved her.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to encourage donations to Community Hospice.  The caring staff of this organization helped Irene and her family navigate the physical and emotional changes during her end of life challenges.

On Thursday, September 21st. from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. the family will meet at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9  Clifton Park, NY 12065 for calling hours and have a short service at 4:00 pm  provided by Pastor Lee Carlson of the Shenendehowa United Methodist Church in Clifton Park.
