Obituary of Marvin E. Werner
Marvin E. Werner, 86, of Westport, formerly of Werner Rd., Clifton Park (Town of Halfmoon), beloved husband for 48 years of the late Katherine L. (Peth) Werner, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 18, 2023.
Born in Halfmoon, NY, he was the son of the late Herold and Blanche (Fellows) Werner and was a graduate of the first graduating class at Shenendehowa High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served from 1960 to 1966 and received a Good Conduct Medal and his Honorable Discharge. Drafted in June 1960 at the age of 25, he spent 6 days at Ft. Dix (NJ) and then was sent to Ft. Benning in GA. He was part of the 77th Transportation Division for which he graduated Superior from the Light Vehicle Duty course as an Outstanding Honor Graduate. During his 6 years in the Army he saw many beautiful landmarks while in Germany and in France. Mr. Werner was fortunate enough to make many lifelong friendships during this time and enjoyed the many reunions around the country that they had.
Mr. Werner was a lifelong self-employed contractor in the Halfmoon-Clifton Park community and retired 25 years ago. He was a skilled contractor and mason who found pride in every job. He worked on many projects for DiSiena Furniture and on the DiSiena family homes. His one greatest build was the original Furniture Doctor in Saratoga, NY. Marvin was always happy to help homeowners see a vision when doing their remodel. Before he found his true passion in contracting, he worked for the Town of Halfmoon and he worked alongside his dad at the family owned lumber company. He enjoyed traveling the country by car, visiting friends, seeing many landmarks, and summering in Crown Point for over 20 years.
Devoted father of Amy (Paul) Serafini and Marybeth Werner, cherished grandfather of Nicole (Kevin) Archibald, Isabella Serafini and Nina Serafini and Camryn Jette, cherished great-grandfather of Rowan and Willow Archibald, brother of Donna (late, Robert) Searles, brother-in-law of the late William (late Nancy) Peth Jr., and also survived by nieces and nephews.
