Obituary of Virginia L. LaPointe
Virginia L. Larimer LaPointe, 90, of West Chester, PA and formerly of Troy, NY, peacefully entered into eternal life at her daughter Lisa’s residence, surrounded by her family on Saturday, September 30, 2023.
Born in Troy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Floyd C. and Cassie Burns Larimer and the beloved wife of the late Clayton LaPointe. She was a graduate of Troy High School, the Union College of Nursing (Albany Medical Center Hospital), Class of 1953 where she earned her Nursing degree and Plattsburgh State University, Class of 1955, where she earned her degree in teaching.
Mrs. LaPointe retired from Catholic Central High School in Lansingburgh where she had been employed as a teacher for over 25 years and had previously been a teacher at St. John’s Episcopal Church Day Care Center in Troy.
Virginia’s hobbies and interests included reading the daily newspaper, feeding birds, watching college and pro football and baseball (Red Sox). She enjoyed being with family and friends, also love of dogs and cats (Mia and Joseph).
She had been a communicant of the former St. Francis deSales Church, the former St. Paul the Apostle Church and of St. Anthony of Padua Shrine Church in Troy. She had also been a member of the St. Agnes parish in West Chester, PA.
Beloved wife of the late Clayton LaPointe, devoted mother of Lisa (John) DeRosa of West Chester, PA and Jon (Mary Cook) LaPointe of Melrose, NY, cherished grandmother of Christopher DeRosa, Michael (Angel) DeRosa, Cory LaPointe and Alison LaPointe, adored great grandmother of Paige, Penn and Jordyn DeRosa, sister of the late Ann Sihner, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday, October 5, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Morris-Stebbins-Miner & Sanvidge Funeral Home, 312 Hoosick Street, Troy, NY 12180 and to her Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Clare, 1947 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12205.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
