Obituary of Marilyn C. Scaringe Smitas Graves
Marilyn C. Scaringe (Smitas) Graves of Clifton Park passed away on October 3, 2023 under the guidance of in-home hospice and surrounded by family. She was 88 years old.
She was born in Albany, NY on Feb. 21, 1935 to Michael J. Scaringe and Lucille (Shaughnessy) Scaringe Josephson. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Names. From modeling for Peggy Parker and others to working for NY Telephone Co., Marilyn held many interesting posts throughout her life. She retired after 30 years as the administrator of employee benefits for the Capital District Painters’ Pension and Welfare Fund and also after 30 years as patient care representative for Medicall Urgent Care Center in Clifton Park. She was married to Daniel J. Smitas in 1952 and together they had three daughters Kimberly A. Smitas (Peg Wilfong), Christine M. Van Buren and Carrie L. Casabonne who survive her. She is also survived by her siblings, Mickey Short (Fred deceased), Michael Scaringe, Bertha D. Josephson (Margaret Kierstein), Anthony Scaringe (Mary), Ray Scaringe (Lisa), Michelle Pirro (Michael), Joan Monson (Roger), one granddaughter Thayer Van Buren, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and her best friend of over 70 years, Helen Hale, plus the remaining members JUGS (Just Us Girls) who over 45 years together enjoyed friendship and many good times. She was a member of West Albany Italian Benevolent Society Women’s Auxiliary and the treasurer of the women’s Wednesday night bocci league.
A memorial service will be held at Saturday October 7, at 11:30AM at Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home 1550 Rt. 9 Clifton Park, NY 12065.
