Obituary of Gerard D. "Gary" Lewandowski
Gerard (or Gary, as many called him) D. Lewandowski, of Slingerlands, was known for his slightly nomadic nature. From Malta to Clifton Park, Buffalo to Mayfield, KY - he left no stone unturned in his places of residence. On October 11th, 2023, he peacefully bid farewell to this earthly realm.
Hailing from the city of Buffalo, NY, he was the offspring of the awesome-sounding Bronislaus H. “Hank” and Theresa (Kwiatek) Lewandowski. He went to Buffalo East High School and then was granted an AAS in Drafting from Erie County Community College.
After a long and illustrious career, Mr. Lewandowski bid farewell to the world of engineering and retired from Atlas-Copco in Voorheesville. Throughout his professional journey, he worked at esteemed companies like Worthington, Ingersoll-Rand, and TurboSystems.
He had a sly, subtle, and dry sense of humor but was also readily available to share his knowledge of his work and the many books he read.
Gerard was an avid (and maybe a little pained) supporter of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, and even the Atlanta Braves. Gerard enjoyed travel and loved to explore different parts of the world. When he wasn't jet-setting, you could find him challenging family to board games or showcasing his skills in card games. And get this – Gerard was such a sporty grandpa that he bowled semi-professionally until he hit the impressive age of 83. Additionally, he served as Treasurer of the Malta Senior Citizens and was a member of the CERT for Saratoga County.
He was the beloved husband of Rita (Cavanaugh) Lewandowski and the late Alice Ann (Piniewski) Lewandowski, devoted father of Brian (Karie Williams) Lewandowski, stepfather of David Rivers, Sue Golden, Patti (Anthony) Szczesniak and Diane (Howard) Vics, father-in-law of Thalia (Vezos) Lewandowski, grandfather of Allison Lewandowski, and step-grandfather of Abbey Rivers, Dillon Rivers, Emma (Nathan) Wood, Samantha Golden, Candice (Jamie) Maier, Matthew (Trish) Dembling, Zoe Szczesniak and Lily Szczesniak.
The Lewandowski family would like to thank Shaker Place and Ellis Hospital for their amazing care and kindness.
