COMMANDER RICHARD R. BARTIS, U.S. NAVY, RET.
Commander Richard R. Bartis, U.S. Navy, Retired, 66, of Lithia, FL and formerly of Schaghticoke, peacefully entered into eternal life in the comfort of home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with ALS.
Rick was born in Cohoes, NY. He was predeceased by his loving parents Richard L. and Jane F. Scullen Bartis and a devoted son, Michael J. Bartis. Rick was a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School in Schaghticoke, Springfield College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree and the University of Phoenix where he earned his Master’s Degree.
Rick joined the U.S. Navy in 1980 as a helicopter pilot and retired as Commander in 2005. After retiring from a 25 year naval career, Commander Bartis worked at US Central Command in Tampa, FL, as a private government contractor.
Rick loved sports in general but particularly golf, football and hockey. He also loved physical fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, completing the Honolulu Marathon, twice.
Rick is survived by the love of his life, Lynne Kyer Bartis of Lithia, FL and their children; Heather L. (Jason) Stinson of Niskayuna and Richard M. Bartis of Mechanicville, loving siblings Janet (Richard) Bayly, Nancy Bartis Kyer, Ellen (Michael) Gambee, John (Mary Theresa) Bartis and Margaret “Maggie” McLaughlin, cherished grandchildren Jeffrey, Audrey, Avery, Charlotte, Jackson and Amelia, he is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Transfiguration Parish, 50 Hillveiw Rd. (formerly St. Bonaventure’s Church in Speigletown) Troy, NY 12182 and to his Funeral Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated in Church at 12:00 p.m. by the Rev. George P. Fleming.
Interment will be held at a later date and time at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville with full military honors.
Rick’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Community Hospice for the support provided during Rick’s final days to ensure his wishes were achieved.
