Obituary of George E. Curran
George E. Curran, 84, of Lansingburgh, peacefully entered into eternal life on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Thomas and Edythe Walter Curran and the beloved husband of Vivian E. Colglazier Curran, with whom he celebrated their 48th Wedding Anniversary on November 8, 2018, a week prior to her passing on November 16.
After graduation from Watervliet High School and attending Alfred University, George served in the U. S. Air Force from 1959 to 1963, receiving an Honorable Discharge as an Airman Second Class. His duty stations included Morocco, Denver, and Washington, D.C. He was also an accomplished Machinist, retiring from General Electric in Schenectady after more than 30 years.
George was a very active member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lansingburgh. He was a lot of things to a lot of people, always generous with his kindness, care, and time, and always offering a helping hand to anyone and everyone who needed it. He was also an avid model train collector, and loved to travel to York, Maine with his beloved Vivian and family.
He was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Devoted to his sons James P. Curran, Bryan L. Curran, and Andrew S. Curran. Cherished Grandpa to Nolan P. Curran, Kathryn M. P. Curran, Stephanie L. Curran, Sullivan J. T. Curran, Thomas M. Curran, and the late Kelly M. Curran. Adored Great Grandpa to Bentley J. Curran. He was also an admired brother to Anita Giuliano, Richard (Pat) Curran, the late Donald Curran, the late Robert Curran, and the late Susan Curran. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
George’s funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Corner of 115th Street and Fourth Avenue in Lansingburgh by Dr. Rev. Desmond Francis, Pastor.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, NY 12182.
George’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion during his time there.
