Jack R. Evans, 93, of Terrace Court died on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush. He was born in Auburn, NY on March 13, 1924 and was the son of the late Evan D and Belle Evans. He was a graduate of Palmyra Classical High School and was the husband of the late Sadie Greens Evans who he married on Nov. 11, 1950. He was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII as a radioman in the Pacific Theater.
Jack was employed as a instructor in mechanical telephone engineering for NY Telephone Co., retiring in 1985.
Jack was a competent handyman around the house and with his automobiles. He kept up with current computer and cell phone technology and finally bought a Prius Hybrid that had caught his interest. After retirement Jack pursued hobbies of bicycling, canoeing, kayaking and traveling with his wife. Jack also volunteered his time at the Shenendehowa Helping Hands Food Pantry and participated in exercise classes at the YMCA. In his younger days, Jack sang in several choir groups including the military and Amsterdam’s Mohawk Valley Chorus. Jack stayed very active until his cancer slowed him down in February. We would like to thank the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor for the wonderful care they gave Jack during his final days.
