Obituary of John E. Dougherty
John E. Dougherty, 55, of Lansingburgh, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his family at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Born in Troy, NY, John is the son of Thomas P. Dougherty, Sr. and the late Geraldine A. “Gerry” Harris Dougherty. John was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
John had been employed at Norton Co. (presently St. Gobain) in Watervliet and had also been at Comfortex in Colonie and BBL Hospitality (Hilton Garden Inn) in the Banquet facilities in Troy.
Family and family functions meant the world to John. He loved planning, organizing and partaking in their family events. John especially cherished his nieces and nephew who adored him. John also loved gardening, planting flowers, the outdoors, showing championship Newfoundland dogs with Helen Mancuso who was like a second mom to him, was passionate about cooking, in particular gourmet cooking and its plate presentation as a result of having honed those skills with Chef Al Pollock. John had been an Associate Member of the Veteran’s of Lansingburgh.
Beloved son of Thomas P. Dougherty, Sr. and the late Geraldine A. “Gerry” Dougherty, devoted brother of Diane Marie Dougherty-Wilson and Thomas P. Dougherty, Jr. (wife Deborah), adored Uncle of Ryan Wilson, Marissa Wilson (fiancé Kareem Hines), Christine Dougherty, Shannon Portela (Joseph), Meghan Dougherty, Erin Dougherty and Kamryn Dougherty, loving great Uncle to McKenna Portela, also survived by his aunt Jean Kane and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Friday, January 12, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and to the Funeral Home Service at 6:30 p.m. that evening both at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh), Troy, New York 12182.
Private interment will be held in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Troy.
The Dougherty family wishes offer their most sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital ICU, Fr. Liam O’Doherty, O.S.A. at St. Augustine’s Church in Lansingburgh and to all at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc. for the their wonderful care an assistance that has been provided.
