Eric and I shared a love of dance and would enjoy the Fall for Dance series at City Center. He was a kind and considerate friend and had a skilful way with words. He is now happy with his beloved Boris.

Having just found out about the passing of Eric, I am shocked and deeply saddened. I had the privilege of knowing him through Boris. I was Boris' cat sitter when dad would go out of town. I only met Eric once but spoke with him numerous times when I would update him about Boris and send him photos of Boris while he was out of town. Eric emanated a kindness and gentleness that few people do. I sensed it immediately. He loved his Boris as did I. Many times I've driven past his neighborhood and thought I should reach out for him to see if he was ready for another cat and and to see how he was doing. I regret not contacting him.... if even to say Hi and ask about his well-being. I know Eric and Boris are together now. Both are once again happy, healthy and whole. Rest in peace. The world is less of a place without both of you. I'm very sorry for your loss.

As an animal lover and dog and cat owner I truly relate to his connection to his dear pets. Peace to you Eric.

I was really sad to hear that Eric had passed. I met him through FaceBook, and we met in person this past fall and had tea together and a nice afternoon. What a kind person he was, with a truly tender heart. I hope he is reunited with the cats he loved so.

I met Eric on Twitter in 2008. We bonded over our love of cats, poetry, and the arts. I admired his love of New York and all the exciting things he would share about the city. He was thoughtful and kind. Mississippi is a far cry from New York, but I always felt he was genuinely interested in what was going on with my life as much as I was in his big city adventures. We always kept in touch on Facebook through the years. He and Boris are very loved and greatly missed by those of us whose lives they touched so profoundly. -Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

eric and i were friends for over 15 years and i even came up to visit during the NYCB visit to SPAC in 2021 -- we shared a love for ballet, cats, ramen & i will miss him.
i danced for him when i went to baryshnikov center the other day and am sure he smiled down at my pathetic attempts at jetes and pirouettes.
hope his reunion with boris was wonderful.

"Only a Facebook friend" - No, Eric was much more than that, he was as "real" and as dear a friend as I ever had, though we never met in person. His writing, his personality, were so vivid and memorable, and we did have video visits, in which we showed off our cats and our collections with delight. Eric shared his interests with passion and eloquence, that made them larger than life, even to someone 3,000 miles away. Also larger than life was his kindness. The day after my dear husband Peter died, Eric sent me flowers, and we shared our grief, mine for Peter, his for Boris, with no slightest distinction ever being made between the human loss and the animal one, for both were monumental in our lives. What a friend he was! My deep sympathy to his family and to all his other friends, who I know are mourning as I am.

I was so sad to hear of Eric's passing. His wit, beautiful writing and deep knowledge of ballet endeared me to him from the moment I discovered ballet.co.uk more than 20 years ago. I followed his life on social media even after he stopped writing. I am forever grateful to have 'known' him, and I extend my sincere condolences to his family and friends. I hope Eric has now found the peace he deserves, and that he has reunited somewhere, somehow with his beloved Boris. RIP dear Eric. I hope you knew how much you were admired and appreciated.

It is hard to come to terms with the idea that Eric is no longer here, posting photographs of his beloved cats, describing his daily routine, posting dance excerpts, recalling memorable performances, grousing about this or that. Things weren't easy for him, and he wore the highs and lows on his skin for all to see. But he was a kind and talented and witty man, a superb writer and observer. And his love for Boris and all the other cats in his life revealed a passionate, generous soul.

I knew Eric through Facebook for at least a decade, sharing daily our passions for ballet, dance and cats. I loved his writing - so reflective of his brilliant mind, warm and caring heart, and spiky sense of humour. There is a big Eric-shaped hole in my life and heart.

My deep condolences to all those who loved Eric. He will be missed by many for his wit, his deep knowledge of all things balletic and feline, the humility with which he accepted compliments, the fearlessness of his search for meaning. He has left a hole in my life, and we never even met in the flesh. A one-off. Goodnight, Eric.

I was so very sorry to hear that Eric had passed away. We knew each other via the BalletCo Forum and Facebook as fellow ballet lovers.
I loved reading Eric’s insightful, articulate and often witty reviews and his posts about his beloved cat Boris.
May Eric rest in peace. I hope he has reunited at the rainbow bridge with all his beloved cats.

I didn't know Eric--however his writing work was the reason why, decades ago, I started using my middle initial in all my writing work (for The Times and other publications), as I often incorrectly received praise for his desktop publishing book. My condolences to his family and friends.
