Obituary of Benjamin W. Wagar
Benjamin W. “Bennie” Wagar, 73, of Brunswick, passed away at his residence surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.
Born in Troy, New York, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Doris Yaiser Wagar and was the beloved husband, for nearly 49 years, to Stephanie A. Korotsky Wagar, who passed away on April 14, 2020. Bennie was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School, Class of 1969 and attended Hudson Valley Community College.
Mr. Wagar served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Sharpshooter (Rifle) Medal as well as his Honorable Discharge.
He loved his motorcycle and riding, as well as to work outdoors and in the woods on their own land, formerly a working farm.
Mr. Wagar retired from the Mohawk Paper Mill in Waterford.
Devoted father of Adam (Stephanie) Wagar of Brunswick, NY and Jennifer (Sean) Cope of Middletown, CT, cherished grandfather of Ron Wagar, Zachary Cope, Micaela Cope and Meredith Cope, dear brother of Sherry (Jack) Baldes, Rita (late, Hugh) Muckle, Joan (late, Les) Miles and the late Ruth (late, Thomas) Reigert, also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc., 565 Fourth Avenue (at the corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182 as well as to join the family on Wednesday morning between 7:45 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. at the funeral home to join the funeral procession to the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd., Schuylerville, NY 12866 whereat 9:00 a.m. full military honors will be offered.
