Obituary of Margaret A. Peterson
Margaret “Marge” A. Peterson, 88, a cherished community member and beloved family figure, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her home in Clifton Park, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 15, 1935, in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Frederick F. and Loretta A. Cavanaugh Sullivan. Marge was a proud graduate of Watervliet High School, class of 1953, and the dedicated wife of the late Richard “Dick” Peterson, who passed away on November 19, 2005.
Marge’s career spanned over three decades as the owner of Snelling and Snelling employment agency in Albany and Latham, where she was known for her sharp business acumen and compassionate leadership. Prior to this, she served at the State Bank of Albany, setting the foundation for her distinguished professional life.
A devout Catholic, Marge lived her faith through her actions, participating in the Shenendehowa Senior Citizens and the Southern Saratoga County YMCA. Her deep connections in the community were mirrored by her close-knit family relationships. She and Dick enjoyed many joyful years in Clifton Park, often hosting gatherings by their home pool with Marge’s sister Jean and her family.
After Dick’s passing, Marge found solace and joy in the company of dear friends like Jane and Walt Williams and Archie and Cheryll Blaise. Her wit and snarky humor continued to bring laughter and light to all, especially her nephew Matt and his best friend Todd, with whom she shared many cherished moments.
Marge is survived by her loving nephews and nieces: Matthew Smith of Saratoga Springs, Amy Proctor of Center Brunswick, Michael Smith of Toms River, NJ, Gary Smith of Worcester, MA; and several distant nieces and nephews of her late brother, Fred.
Marge’s legacy of kindness, leadership, and humor will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew her.
