Obituary of Rita A. Marion
Rita A. Burke Marion, 98, formerly of Schenectady, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Baptist Health Care Center in Scotia.
Born in Troy, New York, she was the last surviving child of the late William George and Agnes Shaughnessy Burke. She was predeceased by brothers William, Jr. and Richard Burke, and sisters Gertrude, Helen and Grace. Rita was the beloved wife of the late Carl J. Marion. She attended CCHS and Troy High School.
Mrs. Marion retired in 1990 from The Carl Co., in Clifton Park, where she had been a Sales Associate. She had previously been employed at Denby’s, and the Carl Co. (Troy), and the Watervliet Arsenal during WWII. In the late 1950’s, she worked at Sherwin Williams, in Troy, where she attended art classes and developed a love of painting.
Mrs. Marion was a founding trustee and served as a Board Member of the Shenendehowa Free Library (now the Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library), was a member of the Halfmoon Fire Co. Auxiliary, Home Bureau, Anne Schaefer Seniors, St. Mary’s Church School Mother’s Club in Waterford, and Boy Scouts of Halfmoon. She was a communicant of St. John The Evangelist Church, in Schenectady, and St. Mary’s Church, in Crescent, and was an avid golfer and bowler having participated in various leagues. She loved to read.
Devoted mother of Raymond (Mary) Durocher, Paul (Amy) Marion, Karen (Robert SanFilippo) Marion, Elizabeth (late Michael) Hurley and cherished grandmother of Michael Durocher, Guy Durocher, Valerie Blais, Jennifer Marion, Jason (Jenny) Marion, Hannah Hurley, John Hurley, David Breda, Jacob Breda and the late, Roger Bailie, Jr.. She is also survived by her adored great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 86 Church Hill Rd. Waterford, NY 12188.
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waterford.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 RT-9, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
