Obituary of Dennis B. Lapham, Sr.
Dennis B. Lapham, Sr., 79, of Brunswick, formerly of Plattsburgh, New York, beloved husband of nearly 57 years to Nancy J. Ashe Lapham, peacefully entered eternal life surrounded by his loving family on July 6, 2024.
Born in Plattsburgh, New York, he was the son of Leonard and Ruth Terrell Lapham and was a graduate of Lansingburgh High School where his love for sports began.
Mr. Lapham attended SUNY Plattsburgh before becoming the President, Owner and Operator of Royal Chemicals in Troy, N.Y. for nearly 40 years. He was known for his incredible sense of humor and loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He was truly a “people person.”
An avid Boston Red Sox and Celtics fan, Dennis passed his love for sports onto his children. He founded the Brunswick Biddy CYO basketball program and was a former coach and President of the Brunswick Little League. He also coached at the Brunswick Independent League and Brunswick Babe Ruth League. Dennis would light up when he would run into his former players who even as grown men referred to him as “Coach Lapham”.
Dennis was a founding member of the Tamarac High School Booster Club when his own children were in elementary school. He served as the announcer for the Tamarac Bengal Basketball and Football games and was referred to by many as “the voice”.
Beloved husband to Nancy, devoted father to Jeffrey K. (Tracy) Lapham, Stacey L. (Bill) Shanahan, Dennis “Brian” (Carolyn) Lapham, Jr., and Christopher M. (Carolyn) Lapham. Cherished grandfather of Marissa (Dison) Reynolds, Kendall “Kiki” Lapham, Cameron and Kiernan Shanahan, Trey and Fin Lapham, and Sarah Lapham and Hilary (Brit) Douglas. Great Grandfather of Kane Reynolds. Loving Brother of Russell (Alicia) Lapham, the late June (late Wright) Fowler, the late Leonard (late Carolyn) Lapham, and the late Richard (Linda) Lapham. Brother-in-law of the late Betty Lapham. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service to begin that evening at 6:30 p.m. at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, 565 Fourth Ave (Corner of 115th Street in Lansingburgh) Troy, NY 12182.
