Obituary of Jean S. Burns
Jean S. Burns, 94, of Loudonville went home to our Lord on August 13, 2024, while being cared for at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
Jean was born on July 2, 1930, and was raised in Rensselaer. She graduated from Van Rensselaer High School and went on to her Master’s Degree in Childhood Education at the College of St Rose. She taught in the North Colonie School District for many years. Jean was one of the founding members of the Board for Literacy in New York State.
She was a talented artist who enjoyed painting primarily landscapes and seascapes and spent many hours in her art room. She had an extensive in-home library, as reading was one of her great passions.
Jean married her sweetheart, James R. Burns, on June 10, 1955 and spent many happy years together.
Along with her husband, Jean enjoyed their travels at home and abroad. They were involved in many clubs, organizations and charities. Jean was very proud of her Scottish heritage, so they were part of the St. Andrews Society and Clan Campbell where they made lasting friendships.
They were longtime members of Loudonville Community Church and made many lifelong friendships, many of whom visited her continuously at home and during her time at Shaker Place.
Jean is predeceased by her husband Jim, sister Margaret (Peg) Jenner, and nephew John M. Burns.
She is survived by her son James Andrew Burns, grandsons Deaven Burns and Gavin Burns, nephew Tom Burns (Kim), niece Jacqueline Conboy (Bill), niece Rachel Victorin (Clark) and many great nieces and nephews, and close friends.
