Obituary of Robert Lynn Duncan

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Lynn “Bob” Duncan, a lifelong resident of Brunswick passed away December 18, 2024, at the age of 83, with his loving family by his side.

He was born February 1, 1941 in Troy, NY to the late Lynn and Ethel (Golden) Duncan and grew up on the family dairy farm.

For over 36 years, he worked as a senior heavy equipment operator for the Town of Brunswick Highway Department. After retiring in 2002, he continued on a part-time basis with the town for another 14 years. Until his passing, he enjoyed reminiscing about his time there, especially sharing stories from his snow plowing days.

When he wasn’t working at the town, he could be found helping his brother on the dairy farm or out chopping wood, by hand, for his beloved woodpile. He was an avid outdoorsmen and enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycling, snowmobiling, and their camp on Lake Ontario. He enjoyed going to casinos, traveling with friends, and spending time with his family. Bob loved to joke; his favorite piece of advice was “Don’t take any wooden nickels.”

In 1984, Bob married Joyce Boomhower and became the proud father and Daddeo of the five Breen girls. In addition to his loving, devoted wife of 40 years, he is survived by his daughters, Kathy Dorsey, Diane (Nick) Champitto, Kimberly (Keith) Tuzzolo, Rebecca (David) Insley, and Marsha Smith. He was the cherished Pa to his grandchildren Alexander (MacKenzie) Champitto, Jaimee (Terrence) Green, Eric Champitto, Benjamin Dorsey, Holly Snow (Zachary Helm), and Casey (Caleb) Bowling; and loving great grandfather to Griffin Alexander and Luca Robert Champitto. He is also survived by his four sisters-in-law, along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by his siblings, Leonard Duncan, Ruth Gardineer, Mildred Johnson, four brothers-in-law, and his son-in-law Timothy Dorsey.

The family would like to thank the staff at Van Rensselaer Manor, especially those on 3B, as well as special friends Tom, Marylee, and Charlie.
